The FairyTale Collection Review and Giveaway!

by Lee on January 21, 2010 · 13 comments

I grew up loving fairy tales and nursery rhymes.  Of course they were the old school kind where the wolf fell in the pot of boiling water.  So I was excited to share The Fairytale Players Collection by The 6 Pence Players with my kids because it would be great car ride entertainment for the kids and my husband and I could actually hold a conversation without putting on a movie.

The 6 Pence Players was created by a busy mom of 4 and actress named Lynn Llewelyn Penny. She came up with the idea for the 6 Pence Players while sitting in the car thinking how great it would be to be able to listen to children’s theatre done completely by kids so she decided to bring it to life in an audio version using children’s voices some being her own kids.   The voice talent on the CD is great.  The actors are very expressive and the voices are fun to listen to and keep kids engaged in the story which is what every parent wants.

The CD we have titled The Fairytale Players Collection tells 5 stories, Three Billy Goats Gruff, Cinderella and Friends, The Emperor’s New Clothes, Three little Pigs and Princess and the Pea.  I really liked how the CD had both stories that appeal to girls and boys and they are short ranging from 9-14 minutes.  My 4 yr old son really loved the Three Little Pigs story because he was familiar with it from me telling him the tale but the CD really brought it to life for him.  He also loved the Troll in the Three Billy Goats Gruff.  He like him because he is a “Grumpy pants”.  And yes that is straight out of his mouth.

I did run into a snag, the stories are not told in a traditional way but still somewhat close except the Cinderella s story and my 6 yr old daughter was not thrilled with it.  She actually commented that she did not like it.  She also said it was confusing and I agree with her.  We will probably just skip this story when we listen to the CD.

Even with that little snag, the rest of the CD is great.  My son actually asks for me to put on “stories” as he calls them when we get in the car instead of “I need a movie on”.  And that is a HUGE break through for my needs to be stimulated child. Even though we did not like the Cinderella story as much as we anticipated I still think that this is a great product.  It makes a wonderful gift for both girls and boys and really is stimulating to the imagination.  It is especially a great stocking stuffer.

I learned that the 8-15 minute length of the stories captures auditory attention and extends auditory memory.

Hi – sounds like my almost-3 year old son would like this! I checked out the site and learned that the next CD production will be of “Princess Reform School”. Thanks for the chance to win this!
