Web Show Interview With Adam Baldwin!

by Lee on February 4, 2010

Attention all Adam Baldwin fans!

Whether you have been following him since he played Linderman in My Bodyguard, or donning your browncoat at every Sci-fi convention around the world, this is an opportunity not to be missed.

Maybe you have no idea who Adam Baldwin is, but have been reading a lot about him here on MySentimentExactLee and are intrigued (you know I have great taste). Well, wonder no more!

Adam Baldwin, co-star of NBC’s Chuck will be providing the readers of MySentimentExactLee a web show interview where you will have the opportunity to submit your own questions!

Mr. Baldwin is well known for many of the roles he has played on TV and in movies including:

Linderman in My Bodyguard

Animal Mother in Full Metal Jacket

Knowle Rohrer in X-Files

Jayne Cobb in Firefly

John Casey in Chuck

Adam is also an avid political blogger, contributing his opinions to http://bighollywood.breitbart.com/author/abaldwin/, and in his spare time he seems to enjoy political debate on Twitter.com under his handle @adamsbaldwin.

Baldwin has generously offered his time to discuss issues like making informed decisions on vaccinating your children, Hollywood Parenting, http://www.ride2recovery.com/ (one if his favorite charities) and just about anything you’d like to ask him. He can’t give us any spoilers about Chuck so don’t ask, besides, all you’d get out of him is a grunt. Of course he’ll be happy to answer questions about past shows he has worked on. I’m steering clear of too many deep political questions because we have limited time and Adam really likes to prove his point, but I may let a few through.

The tentative time for this interview is February 18th at 9:00 PM EST but will be confirmed closer to the date, as Adam’s shooting schedule is not set that far in advance. But I can tell you this, he is very excited to participate.

Please, leave your questions for Adam Baldwin below and we’ll be choosing the best for the webshow.  Keep coming back to see what others have asked and help give a push to the topics that interest you most.  So you don’t loose track of this thread remember to bookmark http://mysentimentexactlee.com/2010/01/web-show-interview-with-adam-baldwin/ so it will be easily found if it gets bumped by other news & reviews over the next month.
Thanks goes out to everyone who helped wrangle Adam with me! Looks like it worked out in our favor.

I just consider myself a piece of the puzzle and I’m lucky enough to be asked or invited to the party, if you will. I hope I can bring some laughs and grimaces to the fans.
Adam Baldwin

MySentimentExactLee

PS: Did I mention he will be giving away some autographed memorabilia from Chuck. That is unless I just keep it for myself. Don’t know how he’ll feel about that though. ;)

I would love to know from Adam what he looks for in a script that makes him want to go for a certain part. For example, what made him want to do Firefly or D.C. Cab? Does he look for something specific?

I would be interested in Adam’s acting process. How he gets from the words on the page to the performance on the screen. Does he do research [when he played a doctor in the past, did he talk to doctors], is he ‘method’ or is he an ‘in the moment’ kind of actor?

Adam’s played a number of space based characters. If he was offered a real, free trip into space, would he go?

Does Adam have a spiritual path/belief/experience which inspires him? He doesn’t have to be specific on what that might be :-) .

I have a few…

Does he ever get annoyed at being mistaken for one of the Baldwin brothers or for their “problem child” Adam?

What made him want to become and actor? And does he consider “My Bodyguard” his debut or breakthrough film?

Can he play “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon”?

I would also like to apologized for calling him a wussie on your bloggy for following then immediately blocking you. He has stepped up to the plate and I applaud that.

Congrats on the interview! Hmmmm, I have a real intelligent question…

“Did you find it difficult to do all those butt arse naked scenes in the 90′s and if movie part called for it, would you do again?” (hopeful grin)

Actually I was wondering if he likes starring in lesser known films like “Control Factor, Evil Eyes and The Keyman” or if he prefers to be a supporting actor in more public films like “Gospel Hill, Independence Day and the Patriot”?

Probably both, right? They pay the bills.

First off, I’d like to say that Adam Baldwin is an amazing actor who was seriously blessed with equally awesome skills and talent and the love and support he shows for his country and the people in it, is unbelievable! I salute you, Sir, and may God bless you.

Secondly, I have three questions.

My first question is: “I’ve heard that some actors say that it’s hard for them to watch themselves act. Do you find it difficult to watch episodes of Chuck or other productions you’ve been in after it all comes together and is aired?”

Secondly, “Your portrayal of John Casey is amazing. He’s very American; loyally patriotic and, what I assume from his love of President Reagan, conservative in some aspect. Do you feel that you were allowed to express your political side a bit, through your character?”

And, lastly, do (or did) you ever find yourself swearing in Mandarin or letting out a random “Gorram it” while working on Firefly or Serenity?

I have four questions that i wonder about Adam:
1) Are you anything like John Casey (or any of the roles you have played) in your real life and/or what characteristic is most like you that he has?
2) Do you guys have as much fun on the set of chuck as it seems, and are you actually friends or is it only a professional relationship with the rest of the cast?
3) Do you enjoy playing Col. John Casey?
4) Are you a religious person and if so what religion?

I’m in the UK, but becoming increasingly fascinated by US politics. To me (and this may be a reflection on what I’ve been reading/hearing) US politics seem rather polarised. I’d be interested in Adam’s views on that perception -and on whether he thinks there would ever be room for a more multi-party approach like we have in the UK?

And I love Chuck – and hope to see him at T2 in June!

This isn’t so much a question as a comment I would very much like to share with Adam:

I enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 2005. My first deployment to Iraq lasted nine months. When we went, we couldn’t take much in the way of personal effects, but one of the things I did take with me was my Firefly DVDs. It turned out to be a great comfort – helped keep me grounded and was like having a piece of home. In a very real way, you had a positive impact on me (and everyone who learned to stop by in the evenings to watch with me). We laughed, we raged, we threw pieces of shredded jerky at Niska – and then we all went on feeling a little bit better about the world. So I just really wanted to say, thank you for that.

Oh, and the fact that Casey’s a Marine? Well, that just makes me grin. I’m glad to have you play the part.

Thank you again, Adam. Keep fighting the good fight.

My question is exactly what you said Lee, what are Adams thoughts on making informed decisions regarding vaccinations?
With celebrities like Jim Carrey & Jenny McCarthy coming out speaking about their informed vaccination choices & urging other parents to do the same, would Adam say he is on the same side of the fence as them? What has led him to his personal believes on vaccinations.
I don’t know, does he have children?? I have strong views, which arent always the popular mainstream, thoughts myself. I thought it was cool to see a celebrity, that would speak about that, on a mom blog. It’s prompting me to look more into Adams acting & work now! Maybe I’ll find a new show to Tivo, this Chuck, huh??
I’m actually intrigued to see the vaccination comment mentioned & will be tuning into the interview, for that alone! Plus, Adam isnt shabby on the eyes.

Alright sister of mine, I am super excited about your interview with Mr. Baldwin, as I have been a fan since I was in grade school (Seeing as My Bodyguard was released the year you were born). Watching the legendary Ruth Gordon read an abused Linderman’s palm, ahhh it seems like just yesterday (LOL). I’m sure that Mr. Baldwin has had the pleasure of meeting fellow talented and amazing actors, but what I really want to know from this man who seems to be well read (even though I don’t agree with most of his views) is if he were allowed to choose one person dead or alive to meet and have a conversation with, who would that be and why?

Oh and PS, Lee, I am to assume that because I’m your sister I’m not allowed to win anything Adam has to give away and for that, you suck! LOL!

I got to meet Adam last October at a Ride to Recovery event. He is the nicest guy in the world, taking time to talk to me and my friends (and give autographs and pics), even though he was starting a 70 mile bikeride in less than 20 minutes. He’s huge! 6’4″ (he says being so tall makes him difficult to cast) and very well built, which my girlfriend and I could see clearly with his form fitting bike jersey and shorts. Since I’m a Navy veteran, I gave him a Navy pride T-shirt that he wore to the victory party ending the Ride to Recovery. He is an involved parent with his kids; he mentioned them with us as well as in several interviews, although he doesn’t give specifics, probably to preserve privacy.

My questions for Adam:

What charities are you involved with besides Wounded Warriors?

Which do you like better: making movies or being on a TV show, and why?

If you weren’t an actor, what career would you like to have?

What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?

What is the best piece of advice you can give?

Were there any roles that you turned down that you later wished you had taken?

You had one of the funniest scenes ever on Stargate:SG1 in the opening of season 7, talking about what it was like having 4 kids. How much of that scene was autobiographical?

And the most important question of all for a Chicagoan: Cubs or Sox?

Firefly: Great series, or Greatest series?

When someone you know dies, do you really like to work out and get some trim [if there's a willin' woman about]? Or was that a Jayne Cobb thing, and not a Adam Baldwin thing?

Did you enjoy having a sculpture made of yourself (presumably out of mud), and having a song made after your character, Jayne Cobb (the Hero of Canton)?

Do you miss Firefly? Because we do.

PS, you were one of the main reasons i fell in love with Firefly! I love your character, Jayne.

My question is who are some of your idols/heroes that you admire?

With regards to weaponry and stuff- what’ve been the best and worst weapons to er…”play” with. And, most importantly, why?

oh and also- how much preparation goes into honing the grunts- and ensuring that every grunt has its own personality and really emphasises the point?

Nomi’s done :)
(Thanks lee!! (and adam obv lol))

I have three question for Mr.Bladwin:
1. what is your favorite food?
2. what is your favorite cartoon growing up as a kid or adult?
3. Do you think Casey have been to Disneyland as young kid or teenager?

Reply to Laura: ‘Vera’ is in the UK, last I heard. She made an appearance in Honiton, Devon about 18 months ago and a friend of mine managed to get to hold her! He said she was heavy!!

I have a question! :3

Mr. Baldwin, a lot of your characters carry firearms. The way you hold a gun often looks more ‘businesslike’ or ‘professional’ than other characters in the same production… It seems like you have practical experience handling a gun. Is this true? If so, can you tell us more, or give us advice on learning to handle a firearm responsibly? If not, how’d you get so convincing? :)

Hey, I’ve been listening to the Stage_Right show and following Adams blogs etc and I’d like him to talk about Sustainable Development, or at least give his take on it. I think its interesting. So, a question I have for Adam is, whats his opinion on this?

I had the pleasure of meeting Adam last year at Comic-con. I found him to be the nicest person I’ve ever met in the business. He went out of his way to get me some autographs after the line at the WB booth went out the door. Thank you so much!!! After seeing a link to his breitbart.com column on Twitter and hearing about the causes that mean a lot to him, I found him to be even more likeable. He is the exception to the regular Hollywood crowd.

On to the questions:

1) Are you going to be coming back to Comic-con this year? If so, will it be with the Chuck cast or separately or both like you did last year?

2) My wife’s cousin is an extra on Chuck and he mentioned that the cast is like a giant family and they treat everyone equally nice. You never hear anything negative about any of the cast members. Do you think that the camaraderie of the cast to the “hired help” is what makes Chuck special? Did you find that as well on Firefly?

3) I had a question that I wasn’t able to ask at CC last year… With Chevy Chase making a cameo as Ted Roark, was there any thought on the part of Chris or Josh to bring in Christie Brinkley to generate some allusions to some classic scenes from Vacation?

I’d like to know who he thinks should play, who should write, and who should direct the upcoming Captain America movie?

Hey, Adam! Love your work. So, do you have any on-set stories from Chuck? What are your favorite scenes to shoot? We’ve heard from Bonita Friedericy that there is a lot of singing in-between sets, care to share? Are we going to be learning anything new about Casey this season? How do you feel about the fans reaction to the relationship twists in Chuck Vs. The Mask? Thanks for the opportunity to ask some questions! ;D
Much love and thanks,
Aby

-I’ve read that Adam is quite the golfer. I’ve also read he participates in a lot of celebrity golf events. Has he played in any recently? and has he ever/or will he ever play the Pro-Am at Pebble Beach?

-Not really a question, but I’d like him to know that I wish he had a show on Fox that covered politics/entertainment etc. He’d rock that.

You seemed to have been typecast for certain dramatic type roles up until you got to showcase a bit of your considerable – and surprising! – comedic chops in “Firefly”. Do you find you currently prefer those tongue-in-cheek roles to straight drama?

Adam – you have been sorely missed on the OB, although I’ve only been back a short time myself.
Also, your work with Ride2Recovery (the affiliated org to Wounded Warriors) has really been uplifting to many of us who work with the Ft. Campbell, Kentucky & Vanderbilt University Med Center folk. Those guys & gals from 101st, 5th Group, 160th SOAR & others all appreciate it so very much!
Thanks again, Brother!

You’ve been on two cult TV series – X-files and Firefly. Both series have very intense fans. Do you ever wonder if you’re in danger when an overly excited fan corners you?

How many times have you been asked for an autograph while you’re in a public restroom?

Dear Adam,
First of all, I just wanted to say that I love Chuck and Colonel Casey is one of the coolest characters on TV :) Anyways, I have a couple of questions for you…..What is your favorite part about working on Chuck and why? What is your favorite novel and lastly, What is the best part about playing Casey?

I’m just curious if Adam is at all like John Casey – I mean, not the grunting and shunning all social connections, but can he really fight? Shoot a gun? I know he is a patriot and Reagan admirer like Casey, but I’m wondering about the physical stuff. Does he do his own fight scenes? He looks pretty big and athletic and I certainly wouldn’t want to mess with him!

Is it just coincidence that John Casey has the same initials as Jayne Cobb??
Also is there a website that is dedicated to the tv and movie references made in Chuck? I love it when they do that, but I’m sure I miss most of them.
Thank you!
